Welcome to Colton High School and Viking Country!

Colton High School is a small, rural high school tucked into the foothills of the Cascades in Western Oregon. Currently, we have 13 teachers serving approximately 200 students, and, while we are small, we are still mighty! In 2010 our school was selected as a Model School by the International Center for Leadership in Education after a 5 year collaboration, data collection, and on-site direction from the Successful Practices Network. We can also boast not only a 2006 Oregon State Teacher of the year, but a National Board Certified Teacher as well. While we have several staff members who are newer to our district and our school, we also have many who have more than a decade of experience in our district, and some quite a bit more. The fact that we retain so many of our staff members for so many years is a source of pride for us and makes it clear that our staff members choose to be here at Colton. We take great pride in who we are and the quality of education we can provide our students. CHS has a long tradition of performing at or above the state averages on testing and we typically maintain around a 90% graduation rate, sometimes even higher. For more details please see our state report card on the drop-down menu About Us. The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) has designated us as a 2A school in the Tri-River Conference, though we are in some special districts depending on the sport.

Here at CHS we have high expectations of our students and staff, asking all members of our school community to be responsible, respectful, and kind. It is our goal to do our best to prepare our students for their next steps and that includes supporting them as well as challenging them in order to build those necessary skills. Life after high school is not without challenge and any time our students have the opportunity to build the skills they will need to persevere we want to be there to encourage their growth. Learning, after all, is all about growth. Seeing our students grow from year to year in their academic, career-related, and inter-personal skills is our main focus. Please find more information regarding our fantastic school throughout our website or feel free to contact us directly with questions. Welcome to Viking Country and we hope to see you around!

In the event of inclement weather, a FlashAlert will be sent out letting families know if we will be closed or have a 3-hour delay. If we have a 3-hour delay, Colton High School will start at 11:20AM and drop off will begin at 11:05AM. The school day will still end at the regular dismissal time of 4:08PM.

If a weather event were to occur after students arrived at school, and we needed to dismiss early, a FlashAlert, School Messenger and phone call would go out to families to give them specific information regarding the early closure. Please make sure you have signed up for FlashAlert at: https://www.flashalert.net/login/
